Yoga and Pilates are actually two different versions of exercise routines.  Over the past couple, year’s people have come to want a fitness program for their body and the mind.  Yoga is a state, when the body is able to find a better state of mind while Pilates is more for toning of the body.  However, you can combine the two to allow the body to let go of all the stress and burdens and tone down at the same time.  As you know, the mind controls everything, including your body. 

Once you are able to engage your mind, you are going to be able to work out longer and regularly.  When it comes to Yoga Pilates, it is where you take the two exercise programs and then overlaps them.  Of course it takes longer, so you would need to set more time aside to workout then if you did just Yoga or Pilates.  However, you will benefit more if you do Yoga Pilates because you are training your body from many angles.

Yoga originated in India and has been a program for healthiness for thousands of years.  It was westernized around the 60’s and has become a mainstreamed fitness routine.  However, Pilates is much younger than Yoga.  Pilates was created in the early nineteen hundreds by a man named Joseph H. Pilates. 

It took nearly forty years for it to become mainstream and has become a very popular form of exercise.  The difference between Yoga and Pilates is the fact that Yoga is more involved with the mind and spirit while Pilates tries to strengthen and tone the body.  Pilates focuses on mental concentration and movement, while Yoga is a way to balance your life.  Yoga allows a person to find their inner good place and from a healthy mind, a healthy body will fall into place. 

Pilates believes with a healthy body a healthy mind will fall into place since they are complete opposites you can tell why people try to infuse the two workouts together.

For Yoga Pilates, you will want to start with the one and then immediately start the other routine once you have finished the first.  It is having two exercise programs per day.  When you do Yoga Pilates, you are toning the body and you are focusing on healing the soul.  There are many instructional DVD’s that help combine the two and you can find many classes focusing on Yoga Pilates so that you can combine parts of the two programs without having to add extra time onto your workout.
